WREA GREEN CC CHILD PROTECTION POLICY
INTRODUCTION
Wrea Green Cricket Club has adopted the English Cricket Boards Child Protection policy, "Safe Hands Welfare of Young People Policy." A copy of this policy should be read by all parents and helpers and can also be accessed via www.ecb.co.uk
Wrea Green Cricket Club intends that: All young people who are members of WGCC, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability, have the right to be protected and to participate in cricket in a safe environment
Adults working on behalf of WGCC will provide a safe, positive and fun cricketing experience for young people
All adults working with young people at WGCC - volunteers, coaches, umpires and scorers - will understand and be supported in their role and responsibility with regard to the duty of care for young people
Individuals will receive support, through education and training, to be aware of
and understand best practice and how to manage any welfare issues which may come to lightAll suspicions and allegations will be taken seriously, managed and dealt with
swiftly and appropriately in accordance with the procedures set out in "Safe Hands Welfare of Young People Policy."
CLUB WELFARE OFFICER:
The identified welfare officer for the club is Philip Wood. All concerns regarding this policy or the welfare of young people who are members of the club should be expressed to him. In the event of a concern about the conduct of the Club Welfare Officer, concerns should be expressed to the Club President, Mr Arthur Laycock, via the Club Secretary.
CRB CLEARANCE and SELF - DECLARATION
All coaches, team managers and regular helpers will receive CRB clearance to work with young people. All occasional helpers of the club (e.g. parent helpers with coaching; parents involved in the transportation of players to matches) will be asked to complete a self - declaration form.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF COACHES/TEAM MANAGERS:
Coaches/Team Managers will be aware of and follow, the Code of Conduct for Cricket Staff and Volunteers set out in Appendix 1 of "Safe Hands Welfare of Young People Policy." Coaches/team managers are expected to communicate transport/playing arrangements with parents and young people.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS:
Parents are encouraged to become involved in WGCC and particularly in helping with junior cricket. Parents who become involved on a regular basis may be asked to complete CRB Clearance Forms. Those who help on an occasional basis may be asked to complete a self declaration form. Parent helpers are expected to help the club fulfill its intentions set out in the introduction to this policy and should make themselves aware of the contents of "Safe Hands Welfare of Young People Policy." Parents involved in transporting young people to cricket matches are expected to be aware of and follow relevant guidelines set out in the policy.
All parents are asked to:Encourage your child to talk to you about their experiences of cricket and their Club and ensure they know how to voice their concerns if they are not happy about any situation.
Inform the Club Welfare Officer of any concerns over child protection/welfare issues connected with cricket.
Ensure that the club holds up to date medical and contact information about your child.
Ensure that no photographs, video images or other images of young people should be taken or used without the consent of the parents/carers/young person and the club.
Inform the coach/team manager in writing if you do not wish your childs photograph/image to be taken by other parents/the club.
Inform the Club Welfare Officer of any concerns about the improper use of images of young people.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF PLAYERS:
All playing members of Wrea Green Cricket Club are expected to help the club fulfill the intentions set out in this policy by respecting the rights of other young people to participate in and enjoy cricket in a safe and fun environment. Any conduct or behaviour that is dangerous or detrimental to the welfare or safety of other young cricketers (whether members of WGCC or other clubs) will not be accepted. Any abusive or overly critical language to other young cricketers will not be accepted. Young cricketers should report any concerns they have to their coach/team manager or to the clubs Welfare Officer. Any cricketer over the age of 16 who does not want his/her photograph/image to be taken by other parents/the club should inform their coach/team manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF WGCC:
The club will provide a safe environment for young people to practice and play cricket (See Health and Safety Policy).
It will ensure that the club has a named Welfare Officer and First Aid Officer.
It will ensure that no photographs, video images or other images of young people will be taken or used without the consent of the parents/carers/young person and that any photograph/image taken is used solely for the purposes of celebrating participation and success in cricket. It will ensure that the child protection and health and safety policies are monitored and reviewed annually.
HEALTH & SAFETY FOR YOUNG CRICKETERS AT WREA GREEN CC
All young people who regularly participate in cricket through WGCC should be registered as members of the club and have paid the annual subscription. Parents should ensure that the contact details and medical details for their child are completed and kept up to date.
The club will ensure that essential kit is provided (bats/balls/pads/gloves/helmets), and any young person able to bring their own kit is asked to ensure it is clearly named. Parents responsible for the quality and maintenance of kit if they purchase it for their child.
The club is responsible for ensuring that basic first aid equipment is available at each practice and match. Designated first aid coaches are Rob Parr and Dave Uphill. Any injury requiring immediate treatment must be reported to one of them. Parents will be contacted in the event of injury.
PRACTICE SESSIONS
All young people should sign in at the beginning of sessions. Kwik cricketers should sign out when they leave. Anyone leaving practice early should inform the coach.
Practice starts at 6.30 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. for hard - ball practice and at 7.30 p.m. for Kwik Cricket, unless informed otherwise. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure arrival and departure from "The Green". Kwik cricketers should be collected at the end of sessions unless a parent have given notice in advance that his/her son/daughter is allowed to go home alone. If practice finishes early due to poor weather every effort will be made to contact parents. Parents must ensure that they have left up to date contact details when young people sign in.
Only young people over the age of 12 will be allowed to go unaccompanied to the club store opposite "The Green" (following normal safety procedures when crossing a road) to collect nets and other equipment needed for practice/matches. No one is allowed to climb onto or touch machinery kept in the store.
If a ball goes into the road only young people over the age of 12 will be allowed to collect it, following normal safety procedures when crossing a road.
If a ball goes into the pond only an adult can retrieve it.
Hard balls must only be used in organised practice sessions under the instruction of a coach. Correct equipment must be worn at all times when a hard ball is being used. Young people must act with their own safety, and the safety of others, in mind at all times.
WGCC accepts no responsibility for young people who do not follow the above guidelines.
MATCHES:The rules set out above for practice apply for matches. Additionally:
Two adults (i.e. over 18) must accompany each team to a competitive match. Parental help is vital to ensuring that this level of supervision is provided.
Parents will be told transportation arrangements in advance.
The coach/team manager will be contactable by mobile phone throughout the duration of the match in case parents need information.
A base contact from the club will be available to help in emergencies/unforeseen circumstances during the duration of the match.
